First Regional Justice Forum held in northern B.C.

BCFNJC has launched a new series of annual regional forums to ensure equitable engagement opportunities for communities in the the northern, interior, and island regions.

BCFNJC’s first regional justice forum was held on Lheidli T’enneh Territory (Prince George) on March 10–11, 2026, bringing together nearly 150 attendees and speakers from across northern B.C.

Indigenous leadership, community members, justice partners, and service providers gathered to share knowledge, elevate community-based solutions, and advance the BC First Nations Justice Strategy and the National Indigenous Justice Strategy, through dialogue and collaboration.

The agenda encouraged conversation around community-led justice approaches and pathways to reduce the harm of incarceration while strengthening wellness, accountability, and self-determination.

Graphic recorder Michelle Buchholz witnessed the event and created a visual represented key themes and priorities discussed:

Fulfillment of Strategy 16

In fulfillment of Strategy 16 (ensuring proper reporting, evaluation, and knowledge-sharing related to the progress of the Strategy), together the new Regional Justice Forum and the Provincial Justice Forum will ensure the 204 First Nations in B.C. have multiple opportunities to engage on topics pertinent to their communities to inform critical decisions at the provincial and federal government levels.

Each spring the regional forum will be held in a different area of the province, rotating between the northern, interior, and island regions, to complement BCFNJC’s Provincial Justice Forum, hosted in Vancouver each fall.

The 2026 Provincial Justice Forum will be held in Vancouver Oct. 26–28.
