Key Achievements: Collaborative Relationships
The Legal Aid Transition Team has made significant progress in strengthening both cross-bundle and external collaborations. We’ve established valuable connections with the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation (MIRR), the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), and the First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC) through Bundle D which is in charge of Women, 2S+, Youth and Education related strategies in the BCFNJC Justice Strategy. These partnerships are essential for developing external relationships and advancing our innovative legal services model.
Insights and Lessons Learned: International Connections
Our recent engagement with Legal Aid New South Wales (NSW) in Australia has provided us with valuable insights into the common challenges faced in providing legal aid for Indigenous Peoples. These international connections have illuminated areas where we can improve and opportunities to further enhance the BCFNJC’s legal services model. We are committed to applying these lessons to refine our approach and strengthen our services.
Upcoming Initiatives: Virtual Lawyer Engagement Session
We’re excited to announce our next virtual engagement session with lawyers on September 25, 2024. This session will focus on Indigenous child protection and aims to build further expertise and collaboration within our legal services delivery model. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to advance our work.
