BCFNJC Council Member Lydia Hwitsum (Xtli’li’ye) gave the keynote presentation at the Ending Violence Association of British Columbia’s 2024 Annual Training Forum on September 26, 2024, where she spoke about the Indigenous Women’s Justice Plan.
As the Director and Alternate Chair for Indigenous Women’s Justice Plan, Lydia Hwitsum (Xtli’li’ye) spoke about the IWJP, sharing the path that brought us to where we are today, what the plan encompasses and seeks to accomplish, and the progress to date.
She shared the importance of community and coordination as being essential to making real change and ensuring our community members, our women, girls, and 2SLGTBQIA+ remain safe. She also highlighted the need for community-led solutions and coordination amongst government ministries, organizations, service providers, and community members.
