Gladue Letters introduced to reduce turnaround times

April, 2025

With increased demand for Gladue Reports since BCFNJC took over the administration of Gladue Services in 2021, the Council has adopted a prioritization process and introduced Gladue Letters—a more concise version of a Gladue Report.

This change ensures that requests from those whose liberty is most at risk are met, and that Gladue products (both Letters and Reports) can be turned around in a timely manner.

BCFNJC has received positive feedback from the justice sector on the availability of the two options, and this approach has helped the Gladue Services team cut down on the backlog of Gladue requests, and processing times.

Gladue Letters are provided for matters with a sentencing range of 6 to 24 months in jail, and

Gladue Reports for matters facing jailtime of over 24 months.

Gladue Letters can be turned around within 4-6 weeks and Gladue Reports take around within 6-8 weeks.
